Who gave you the right?

11. December 2008

I read an article on NORML that sent me to an Idea to legalize marijuana that you can vote for on the Change.org site. The site is not to be confused with Change.gov, president-elect Obama’s new way of listening to the people. It is just a site that brings up issues, which it plans on presenting to Obama. It moved me to not only vote, but write a response, which I decided to also post here. I hope that you will also take action on the issue.

What right does the government have to tell anyone they can’t do something, unless it’s going to reduce someone else’s freedom? This is a personal, health-related choice and the idea that the government has any right to make any decision, regardless of how “dangerous” it may be (ha!), is positively insulting.

Let’s pretend for a moment that you don’t believe in the concept of freedom, so the above statement doesn’t apply. Still consider that cannabis is entirely harmless (you can shrug that off if you don’t believe me, or you can research it a bit and find out that it is entirely 100% true, there are NO harmful effects proven to be associated with cannabis). The lethal dose for marijuana is the essential equivalent of smoking 50 average-sized joints within a 2 minute period, assuming that NONE of the THC escaped in smoke. It is physically impossible. The only way one could theoretically overdose on cannabis is by way of intravenous conception.

The “gateway drug”, maybe (though I’ve never seen data proving it), but ONLY because it’s illegal. Be rational here, it’s not as if there’s something in the chemical compound of weed that makes you want to try harder stuff. The psychological response is obvious: “why not try another illegal drug? The government is probably lying about that too.” Tell the truth about the substance in the first place, make it legal, regulate it, and the thinking becomes: “if I am going to move onto another drug I’m going to, at the very least, give it some serious thought.”

Deaths from ALL illicit drugs COMBINED add up to only a tiny fraction of the deaths caused by cigarette smoking alone, not to mention alcohol and prescription drugs. Tobacco kills 450,000 people yearly and rising, alcohol poisoning (not even counting highway deaths!) kills 150,000, and legally prescribed drugs kill 30,000! For that matter, CAFFEINE kills around 7500! Illicit drugs combined kill 5000. Marijuana has never killed. The number deaths for illicit substances is completely disproportionate to the amount of people using these substances (as compared to the amount of people using licit drugs).*

These are just a few of many arguments for marijuana legalization. Let’s not forget that OVER HALF of people in prison are in there for one reason only: possession of marijuana, and it hasn’t even made a TINY DENT in the cannabis-smoking population (we can’t afford to enforce this!!!). Let’s not forget that regulation gives you a lot better control over a substance than an outright ban. Let’s not forget that it is not chemically addictive. Let’s not forget that personal freedom is what this country was founded on, and this ban spits in the face of the constitution.

It’s time to end this senseless “war” on drugs. The government does not have a right, and even if they did, what they’re doing about it DOESN’T MAKE ANY SENSE!!!

*Data from Surgeon General’s Reports and Life Insurance data averaged over the last 20 years.

Please go vote on the issue, and possibly add your two cents as well.

A GIANT LEAP Towards Freedom

19. April 2008

I just got an unbelievable email from NORML. For the first time in 25 years, there is an actual piece of legislation before congress which would COMPLETELY REMOVE the national ban on marijuana!

Keep in mind, though, it would still be up to each state individually to legalize or criminalize it, or something in between.

However, this bill, if passed, would be a GIANT LEAP towards freedom (as the title suggests). It would mean that marijuana is FULLY LEGAL in California, and it would give states the right to choose whether or not it is okay.

There’s not a whole lot else to say on this matter, so I’ll get to the important part: celebrate 4/20 tomorrow, and the day after that, on 4/21, we’re going to let Congress know that this bill needs to be passed. How are we going to do that? Here’s an excerpt from the NORML Newsletter I received:

MARK YOUR CALENDARS
LET’S MAKE APRIL 21 A DAY THAT CONGRESS NEVER FORGETS!

NORML needs you to call your Congressional Representative on Monday, April 21, and deliver the following message:

“Millions of hard-working Americans use marijuana. Most consume it responsibly, in the privacy of their own homes, and in a manner similar to alcohol. Why then are we spending millions of dollars each year to arrest these otherwise law-abiding individuals? It’s time to end the madness; it’s time to stop arresting responsible marijuana consumers. I urge you to support House Bill HR 5843, an ‘Act to Remove Federal Penalties for Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults’.

(You can contact the office of your US Representative directly dialing the Congressional Switchboard at 202-224-3121.)

After you have done so, we also ask that you please e-mail this message to Congress. Simply click here and enter your zip code and NORML will instantly send a pre-written message in your name to your Congressional Representative.

Imagine the ‘buzz’ on Capitol Hill as thousands upon thousands of phone calls and e-mails begin pouring in to the Congressional offices in support of legalizing marijuana. Never before has the marijuana law reform movement made this sort of political statement to Washington; we intend to make it a statement that our elected officials won’t soon forget. As I said at the opening of this letter, we truly will be making history!

Guys, I urge you to help out with this effort to restore freedom to America. If you are interested in receiving updates like this from NORML, I also suggest you join NORML’s newsletter (it is near the bottom left of their page).

Thanks guys.

Save the Internet, Save the World

17. April 2008

Save the Internet: Click here
Hey everyone, PLEASE read this as it is by far the most important blog I have ever written. I don’t wish to come across as a fanatic, but for this particular issue, I am one. I hope you will be as well after you hear what I have to say. This is about doing your part to Save the Internet.

I sincerely believe that the Internet is humanity’s single biggest resource. It is bigger than human beings, bigger than corporations, bigger than even countries. The Internet binds the entire world together in a way never before seen.

It is not the right of any individual, corporation, government, or entity of any kind to stifle the freedom of the Internet.

Big phone and cable companies are trying to get rid of Network Neutrality, the fundamental principle that prevents them from discriminating against your favorite Web sites and services.

Unless we speak out to our members of Congress they could move to allow large telephone and cable companies to control what you do, where you go and what you watch online.

Ultimately, because of the power of the Internet, those who are allowed to control the Internet will have the power to shape the future of humanity. Think about it. Culture, commercial enterprise, freedom of speech, religion, politics. All of these things can be controlled with the Internet. Those who seek control do so according to their own desires and lusts, NOT what is in humanity’s best interests.

This is not a difficult issue. Nor is it to be taken lightly. Please, help protect the Internet, which has transcended national borders and pushed humanity to its golden age.

Visit this website, sign their petition, and send a letter to congress (they make it real easy with a simple form). The world needs your help to keep the Internet free.

Visit www.savetheinternet.com to learn what’s at stake and send a loud message directly to the Congress.

Ron Paul throws no towell

6. February 2008

It angers me and saddens me to have watched Super Tuesday go by, all the news stations continuing to pretend that Ron Paul didn’t exist. Even when he earned 9, 14, 17, 19, 21, 25 percent of the votes, he was brushed aside as if he was a green party member earning less than 1% in every state. HE’S NOT! He’s a MAJOR CONTENDER! And he’s the only Hope for America.

“…the American Revolution—the very thing whose legacy Ron Paul is fighting to keep alive—had darker days in 1776 than anything we have yet faced.”

RON PAUL IS STILL IN THIS!!! It is pretty clear to me that America wants Ron Paul. They are just so afraid they can’t have them, and afraid they’ll be wasting their vote.

Voting for the right man or woman is NOT wasting your vote. The only ways you can waste your vote are by not voting and by voting for the wrong person because you think the right person doesn’t have enough support.

The Ron Paul Campaign HQ blog:

Loren C. says regarding Ron Paul’s presidential candidacy:

A friend of mine asked me tonight, “Should Ron Paul just quit? I never hear of him on the news so he can’t be doing very well today (Super Tuesday).” Here is my reply to him:

I don’t care what the liberal media is saying, he has,

2nd place in Nevada

2nd place in Louisiana (possibly first once they get it sorted out)

2nd place in Montana

2nd place in Maine

3rd place in Utah

3rd place in North Dakota

There is about 21 more states left to vote,

He has plenty of money,

No one has even close to enough delegates to take the nomination,

He has the only true Republican stance on the issues,

He is the only candidate who believes our government should follow ALL of the Constitution,

Quit?

Not even close. Keep fighting, Ron Paul is!

I believe in Ron Paul. I believe in what he stands for, I believe in freedom, I believe in the constitution, and yes, I believe in the American people. And not in spite of, but because of this, I believe Ron Paul can overturn insurmountable odds and the media’s ridiculous political boycott to become the next president of this great nation.

Love Cocaine

28. January 2008

LoveCocaine.com - a place for fans of Cocaine energy drink to meet up. It’s brand spankin new, and Jamey just sent me the link a few hours ago. I think this is a great opportunity to create a community to back up Cocaine. That community has existed in part, but so far communication was not there. Now that the community can communicate with eachother, we have a much larger chance of stopping the FDA from violating the Constitution in the future.

Uncle Sam’s War on America

6. January 2008

This is a research paper which details America’s fallacies in regards to their strategies in the War on Drugs. Not only do I outline the current strategy and explain what is wrong with it, but I also offer an alternative strategy which could solve many of the problems America faces today, including drug abuse, theft, and violent crime.

Most of us are familiar with alcohol prohibition, which began in 1920 and was quickly repealed in the early 30s. During that time, the sale of alcohol was outlawed in America, and this created far more problems than it solved. Consequences of the federal government outlawing a much-used substance included increased crime rates, increased acts of violence, and one theory even suggests that use of alcohol actually increased. One would find it extremely difficult to locate an educated individual that believes prohibition had positive effects. Prohibition was an absolutely indefensible attack on personal freedom. But most people believe prohibition ended in 1933. Wrong. Soon after began another prohibition, one that for a number of invalid reasons, was largely accepted in contrast to alcohol prohibition.

To see the rest of the article, download the PDF of Uncle Sam’s War on America.

I have plans to put together a more interactive and visually interesting version of this research, but I have had many extravagant plans fall apart. Thus, I promise nothing.

A Case of Brawndo at my Door!

10. December 2007

So I was reading up on Redux’s new energy drink, Brawndo (as seen in Idiocracy) when I heard a knock on my door. I looked out my window to see a UPS guy dropping off a rather large package at my door. What was it but a case of Brawndo, 5 full days before it is to be released to the public! I can’t thank Jamey Kirby and the rest of the Redux staff enough for giving me the privilege of being among the first to try this incredible new energy drink.

The taste is nothing short of excellent, and is strangely reminiscent of AirBorne lime flavor, for those of you who’ve tried it. That said, the flavor is much stronger and better. I quite like it. :)

Again, thanks a million to the Redux staff for this. Brawndo is among the best tasting energy drinks in my opinion, if not #1! Thanks for bringing this electrolyte-packed wonder to the world 500 years before it was supposed to happen!
